Simultaneous interpreting
by
dr Anna Jelec
About the course...
For many people simultaneous interpreting is the tame aspect of an interpreter's job. After all, what can go wrong in a soundproof booth? I'd venture to say that simultaneous may be as adventurous, or even more so than consecutive.
It is a very demanding skill, requiring not only high language proficiency, but also quick reflexes, a sense of humour, flexibility, a well-trained memory and quick recovery after mistakes. As interpreters, we may sit in the comfort of the booth, but we are performing for large audiences. The topics range from specialised technical matters to PR fluff, but one thing stays constant: the requirement for highest quality performance. During this course we are going to improve your interpreting skills in order prepare you to enter this very competitive job market.
